BAMF Books: Support

Need help with BAMF Books? We're glad to help.

When you email, it helps to include: what you were doing, what you expected, what actually happened, and any error message (with secrets and account numbers redacted). Because BAMF Books is self-hosted, we cannot see your instance. The more detail you can share, the faster we can help.

FAQ

What is BAMF Books? A self-hosted, multi-entity double-entry bookkeeping engine built to replace QuickBooks. You run it on your own server and your own database; the publisher never sees your data.

Does it move my money? No. All financial connectivity is strictly read-only. BAMF Books reads bank, card, and payment activity to keep your books. It cannot initiate a transfer, payment, or trade.

Where is my data stored? In your own PostgreSQL database, on infrastructure you control. The publisher operates no servers for the app and has no access to your data.

Which services does it connect to? Optionally, SimpleFIN (bank and credit-card data, backed by MX) and Stripe (payment gross/fee/payout/refund detail), only if you supply credentials, and always read-only. There is no analytics, ad, or tracking service.

How do accounts and roles work? Accounts are managed by an admin within your instance. Roles are admin (everything, including users and settings), accountant (read plus all book writes), and viewer (read-only). Passwords are stored only as scrypt hashes.

Is BAMF Books accounting or tax advice? No. It's a bookkeeping tool. Decisions like cash vs. accrual basis, entity tax treatment, and filing obligations are for you and your CPA or attorney.

How do I reset a password? An admin can set a new password for any user from the Users area; that immediately signs the affected user out everywhere. A signed-in user can change their own password from the app.

How do I delete data or an account? See the Account Deletion page: https://bamfapps.com/apps/bamf-books/delete-account

Why do I need to refresh? Wait, do I? You shouldn't. The interface updates live over WebSocket as the ledger changes. If a view ever looks stale without a refresh, that's a bug. Please report it.
